Since opening in Summer 2007, Boondocks has become the third corner of the Lower Westheimer triangle with Poison Girl and Catbirds. It's not just the stellar jukebox, massive smoking area outside, or the storied but seldom-working photo booth - it's that any night of the week, you can experience any scene or genre you want.
A classic bar and a kickin’ club, Boondocks is one of Houston’s very best live music venues. Whether you’re looking for a friendly spot to wind down the day, or a crazy scene to carry you through the night, Boondocks is always the right place at the right time.
Boondocks has a great mix of classic dive bar with a little something extra. That something is the upstairs dance floor where some of the most memorable songs from the ’90s can be heard pumping through the speakers.
Owned by Shawn Bermudez, the man behind several retail clothing shops, bars and food trucks in Lower Montrose, this bar is the grungy older brother that welcomes everyone-- even if it might not seem like that at first glance. There is a humongous pierced and tattooed bouncer with a gruff yet friendly voice, a large patio space filled with skinny-jeans-wearing twenty-somethings smoking Marlboro Reds and celebrating their youth. Don’t be put off by the equally (if not more so) tattooed and pierced bartenders with fashionable facial hair—they are also super-friendly and attentive to everyone.
